Those who gave their lives from Yarm ______________________________________

BOOTH, Robert. Lance Corporal 1270 1st/5th batallion DLI

Return to Yarm Roll Call

Yarm1914 research believe that Robert died of wounds on 20 January 1916. It is likely that he was born in 1890 in Stockton but census records are either incomplete or suggest his parents were not married. Maria Smithson married John William Booth in St Thomas Church, Stockton-on-Tees on 1st July 1895. His military documents record Lily Powers to receive his war pay. Lily is recorded as having a child but the father is not specifically recorded as Robert. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission record Robert as Son of John and Maria Booth; husband of L. Powers (formerly Booth), of 104, Trafalgar St., Thornaby-on-Tees, Yorks. Native of Yarm-on-Tees, Yorks." He is remembered in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery. Robert's grandparents on his mother's side Richard and Ann Smithson lived in Bridge Street in Yarm at the end of teh 19th century.
